All of these rugs are hand-produced in Kashmir with superb craftsmanship by local co-operatives using traditional values and skills. Each rug is made individually by hand by adults (children are not involved) working in their own homes as co-operatives in a cottage industry. To make the rugs, woollen threads are first dyed, using natural dyes wherever possible, and these threads are then stitched in chainstitch onto a cotton fabric, before a cotton backing is applied. The cooperatives use the best quality wool and cotton, while the natural dyes are colour fast. The rugs are therefore washable as wool, even in a washing machine. Bright, beautiful, extremely natural rugs that will be a talking point for your room.
