The Rug Colour for this Year?

World colour leader Pantone has elected "Radiant Orchard" as it's colour of the year for 2014.

Radiant Orchard, which is in the purple colour range, is described as "an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones..."

The colour's rosy-pink notes will enhance skin tones with a healthy radiance and glow and so will appeal to the catwalk and the fashion industry for both women's and men's fashions. At the same time, it is also set to influence colours in the cosmetics market.

Increasingly trends in the fashion sector move across quickly to the world of interior design. Here Pantone expects Radiant Orchid and similar colours to make their impact on accent pieces and accessories, as well as wall paint.

The paint sector is able to concoct new colours in specific matches for more easily and quickly than the carpet and rug business. So it may be that we see householders going for delicate pink walls while looking for complementary ideas for their flooring.

"Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows."

Our customers may therefore be looking at delicate pastel purple tones on one or all of their walls, while choosing a rich olive green or teal rug. Alternatively, an eye catching rug with light but vivid purple tones can liven up the neutral tones so beloved in our homes... beiges, creams, grey-brown tapes etc.

"Likewise, the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe."

The 2013 colour of the year was Emerald Green (PANTONE 17-5641) which was a "symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity." And Apple Rugs did see strong interest amongst our customers in a number of our green rug offerings; for example the Matrix Waves Green, the Bellagio Green and the Whisper Green.

The other colours in this year's hot palette are Dazzling Blue (actually the top colour ahead of Radiant Orchid on Pantone's list of top colours for Spring 2014, and described as a sort of "peppy shade of cobalt." Violet Tulip (near to lavender), Celusia Orange, Freesia, Cayenne, Placid Blue, Paloma, Sand and Hemlock (a mint green).
